Travel Tips
TSA Pre-Check is a smart purchase if you travel often
Follow the Carry-On guidelines, if other passengers have to wait 5 min. for you to stow your over head bag, huge bag & purse you are not using travel ettiquette
Consider preparing Flight attendant gifts! You are bringing joy to people who often get little thanks for all they do. Ideas; gum, mints, chocolates, chapstick, $1 to tip their van drivers, Starbucks cards
If you can, avoid high traffic times of travel like school breaks and holidays. Book your flight the day a holiday starts or the day after it ends to avoid crowds.
Screen shot your boarding pass in case the wi-fi isn’t working - this can really be a smart move if you are flying out of small airports.
Travel Apps to Consider
Trip Advisor
Your Airline App
Yelp!
Happy Hour (Tells you what restaurants offer happy hour prices & the times. Great to temper the high prices in Hawaii - but offers info in many cities & places)
Follow Youtubers and Experts - here is someone who Shelleigh followed to help her pack. She is the wife of a pilot and she knows stuff!
Maui Tips and Recommendations
Be serious about the sun! Bring sunscreen, swim rash guard & a wide brimmed hat! Don’t forget the lip sunscreen as well!
Towel Clips or Bands to keep your towel in place
Consider a Turkish Towel - it can also double as a plane blanket
Pack 1 swimsuit and one change of clothes in your carry - on - just in case your luggage doesn’t make it. (We had a person in our party not get their luggage until the day after they landed. It’s rare but it happens)
Food Tips: It is no secret Hawaii is expensive. Most places you stay have kitchenettes allowing you to eat in as an option. Kristi recommends packing food in your suitcase, including frozen meats, your seasonings, snacks and helpful cooking tool like a microwave egg cooker.
Mindset is Everything!
Know what fills you up. Some people need to do “NOTHING!” and stare out at sea. While some people need a bit of adventure.
No matter your vacation style over planning can tire anyone out - and the point is to slow down a bit and give yourself space to reflect & “re-”create. Have an activity day followed by a stay in or by the pool day.
Don’t let the little things sour your attitude; if it rains take a nap or play games. If the details don’t all line out find other ways to have fun.
Remain grateful for the day and the people you are with.
Fun Grandma Super Tip: Read Philippians 4:8 out of the Bible - it is a great source of encouragement to set your thinking on things that feed your soul.
We Experienced it First Hand!
Turns out Shelleigh and her husband Kevin were invited on a Maui trip at the same time Kristi and her travel group were there. We had a wonderful time and everyone of Kristi’s recommendations were spot on! Click on the images for links to the experience.
